JY The Visionary
Jerron Yarbrough, better known as JYTHEVI$IONARY, is a multi-talented American hip hop record producer, songwriter, performing and recording artist from Chicago, IL. Known for his work in photography, graphic design and video/film directing, JY made a name for himself in the areas of hip hop and videography, with his sound focusing on experimental, technical and vocal harmonies.
Born and raised primarily in Chicago, JY grew up in a blended family; a result of his parents separating when he was an infant. As the middle child of a total of nine siblings, JY was raised by his father who relocated often, struggling to make ends meet as he sought out to provide the best possible life for JY and his siblings. This unconventional upbringing is the driving force behind JY’s drive and determination in the creative industry.
Influenced by the 90s hip hop scene, JY started writing and performing poetry at age twelve with his friends and older brother when visiting his mother; and eventually graduated to free styling his rhymes over some of the most popular beats of the era. Born to a hustling mother and a father who worked as a janitor and valet server, JY experienced the best of both worlds: his keen sense of intuition was sharpened by learning the importance of an honest living from his father, and the harsh realities of the streets from his mother.
While attending Bolingbrook High School, JY formed his first rap collaboration that later disbanded. Out of that collaboration, JY was able to develop his sound and build a home studio where some of his first records were produced. In 2008 at age nineteen, JY released his first mixtape which gained recognition from Fake Shore Drive, one of Chicago’s most popular hip hop blogs, and other local publications.
JY has received regular air time on Chicago radio stations Vocalo 90.7 FM and 107.5 FM WGCI, and has performed at some of the city’s hottest venues such as Reggie’s Rock Club, The Abby Pub, and the Victor Hotel. He shared the stage with other notable talents and managed to hold his own as a newcomer to the industry.
By 2011, JY had established a relevant presence on Chicago’s music scene and began doing freelance film directing and photography for some of Chicago’s most popular talent, generating revenue to invest in his music career. The following year, he launched a series of music videos on YouTube that garnered international attention from fans in parts of the UK and Australia.
Today JY’s main focus is to continue using his God given talents to produce quality visuals and experimenting with sounds, thus contributing to the forever growing and diverse music industry.
