About

Like the Bassline to a song, your Brand is the foundation to your career.

Founded by Patrice K. Cokley in 2014, The Bassline Group started out as a marketing and management boutique agency with a focus on visual and recording artists. Our goal was to help “bring out the bass” in an artist’s career. We noticed that so many creators hid behind their talent, not realizing that their brand and story is what resonated the most with their intended audience, and the business is what prevented their pockets from being empty.

With our initial guidance, our clients have went on to appear on major TV shows (EmpireThe Voice – Top 9The ChiChicago P.D.), and were booked as supporting acts for major recording artists (Lalah HathawayBigBoi of OutkastSlum VillageAnthony Brown & Group TherAPy, and John Legend).

Over the years, our work has been featured in/on many well known publications such as The Wendy Williams Show, VIBE, The Source, HOT97, Billboard, People, iHeartRadio, Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, and many more.

In 2019, we celebrated our 5 year anniversary with the launch of a new brand identity, while continuing to support emerging music creatives and professionals by leveraging our network and over 20 years of music business knowledge. We’ve always prided ourselves on being artist-centric, and that still stands to this day.

Now as a brand development & management company, The Bassline Group is here to support creatives and professionals who are dedicated to being impactful and purposeful.

The Founder

Patrice K. Cokley is the Founder and Owner of The Bassline Group where she serves as a Talent Manager, Chief Strategist, and Lead Consultant. Holding both a BS and MBA in Marketing, Patrice took the entrepreneurial route to kickoff her career by serving local small business owners, entrepreneurs, artists and entertainers for over 10 years. During that time, she has gained practical experience in the areas of digital marketing, event coordinating, public relations, graphic design, web design and the music business.

As a Detroit native who played the piano as an adolescent and started her collegiate years as a Music major with an interest in the Music Business, Patrice knew it was time to bridge the gap between her profession and passion by launching The Bassline Group in 2014.

Patrice is known for her undeniable work ethic, passion for learning and educating, and pushing others to achieve their dreams. She doesn’t just talk about it, she actually does it.

“I’ve never been one to chase clout. I focus on being impactful.”

With her most notable client being Mathew Knowles (Beyoncé & Solange’s dad/former manager), Patrice has been a featured speaker at Columbia College, Baldwin Wallace University, University of Michigan, Soho House Chicago, 2112/Chicago Urban League, LakeFX Chicago, Social Media Week Chicago, Sprout Social, and other events.

In addition to her work here at The Bassline Group, she was a Product Marketing & Education Specialist for music rights & publishing administration platform, TuneRegistry; contributing author for the latest music business textbook by Martin Atkins called Band:Smart; and a college professor at SAE Institute: Chicago for 3 years where she taught Entertainment Marketing within the Music Business Program and received the Mentor of the Year Award in 2019. Lastly, she was a 2022 Black Independent Music Accelerator (BIMA) fellow for The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM), and was invited to become a member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYs) in 2023.

Now, Patrice resides in the Cleveland area with her fiancé and 2 furbabies, and is an Adjunct Professor at Baldwin Wallace University (Billboard’s Top Music Business Schools) where she teaches the Principles of Marketing for the Music Industry.
